Asma (name changed) has an intellectual disability and is supported by her grandmother who works in a thread cutting unit. When Asma’s father passed away, her mother remarried leaving Asma in the care of her grandmother who lived with Asma’s uncle and aunt. The couple saw Asma as a liability and treated her shabbily. Namira has come a long way from the time she was enrolled at 11 yrs. Initially she would come shabby to school. Now she comes in a neat and clean uniform with hair tied. The team along with literacy and numeracy skills is working on her vocational and daily living skills. Earlier her mother would complain that Namira is reluctant to help her in the household chores but now she makes tea and helps her mother. (more…)
